What is the IFSC code?

The IFSC, expanded as the Indian Financial System Code, is a unique 11-digit alphanumeric code used for online funds transfer transactions via NEFT, RTGS and IMPS.

The IFSC bank code can usually be found in the checkbook issued by the bank. It can be found on the front page of the account holder's bank. The IFSC code for each bank branch is prescribed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and the account holder can check the IFSC codes of his bank / branch on the RBI website. Net banking transactions regarding funds transfer cannot be initiated without valid IFSC using NEFT, IMPS and RTGS.
